Frequently Asked Questions for the Exercise Video
What kind of workout is it?
The Kung-Fu Fitness™ video is broken down into four main parts - (1) foundation - (2) warm-ups/stretching - (3) the main workout - (4) core and closing.
Will I learn self-defense?
Some self-defense applications are taught. More are taught to the instructors who become certified.
How challenging is the workout?
You will be given several options for each movement. The "foundation" segment allows you to better understand how and why to to the movements which are used during the "main workout." Once you understand the foundations, you can use your remote to skip directly to the "warm-ups/stretching/workout" section.
How much room do I need to properly execute the movements?
The movements have been structured so that you will take no more than 2-3 steps forward and two steps to either side. Your living room, garage, patio or recreation room will all work very well.
Do I need a partner to practice?
Although exercising with your friends will increase your fun and commitment to exercise, Kung-Fu Fitness™ does not require a partner. There is no contact in this workout.
What type of shoes are needed?
Any type of athletic shoes will work. In the video, John is using dance shoes. Some ability to slide or rotate on the floor may be desirable. The soles of the shoes should give proper support.
What is the philosophy of Kung-Fu Fitness™?
It is similar to many martial arts based fitness programs and yet VERY different in other ways. Most martial arts fitness classes/systems are based on boxing or linear (hard) martial arts, such as karate and tae kwon do.
Kung-Fu Fitness™ uses some linear movements, but in a "kung-fu style." Also, many movements are more circular in nature and easier on the joints. The biggest difference is that our system ALSO teaches the applications for the movements. So, you will not only learn the punches,
kicks, etc, but also why you are punching and kicking and when and how this would be applied in "real life situations." Obviously this helps with the self-defense benefit of the workout, but it also does one more thing. When you know the "why" of a movement, you more easily understands the "how" of a movement.
