What is the philosophy of Kung-Fu Fitness?
It is similar to many martial arts based fitness programs and yet VERY different in other ways. Most martial arts fitness classes/systems are based on boxing or linear (hard) martial arts, such as karate and tae kwon do.
Kung-Fu Fitness™ uses some linear movements, but in a "kung-fu style." Also, many movements are more circular in nature and easier on the joints. The biggest difference is that our system ALSO teaches the applications for the movements. So, you and your students will not only learn the punches,
kicks, etc, but also why you are punching and kicking and when and how this would be applied in "real life situations." Obviously this helps with the self-defense benefit of the curriculum, but it also does one more thing. When a student knows the "why" of a movement, he/she more easily understands the "how" of a movement.
Is this a certification, business system, training program or all three?
When you enroll in the Kung-Fu Fitness™ program, you are getting comprehensive training, a full instructor certification, and a comprehensive business system which will allow you to implement your business ANYWHERE you want. Kung-Fu Fitness can be taught one-on-one, indoors, at spas and resorts, outdoors, to small groups or large, in health clubs, fitness studios and dojos.
After successfully completing the program and test, will I have everything I need to start my Kung-Fu Fitness™ Business?
You may begin teaching immediately. No special equipment of any kind is needed. Because the course comes with a complete marketing program, art work and business plan, you can get started immediately. We suggest you begin some of your business planning while still studying the moves and methods of our system.
What background do I need to teach Kung-Fu Fitness™?
There is no specific background that will translate into a great Kung-Fu Fitness instructor. At a minimum, you should have one of the following: personal trainer or group exercise certification. A yoga or Pilates certification could also be helpful. Martial arts or boxing training is also helpful. All martial arts styles can be blended with this fitness curriculum. Remember, these are suggestions. THERE IS NO SPECIFIC PRE-REQUISITE TO ENROLL IN THIS PROGRAM. Although a CPR certification is not required to earn this certification, we strongly encourage you to earn one prior to teaching. Some insurance companies may require it. Upon successful completion of your certification exam, Fitness Trainer Liability Insurance can be acquired through NESTA.
Is this a franchise or licensing program, and are there any additional fees?
This is not a franchise. You will sign a licensing agreement for the use of the logos and promotional materials. This is to protect the Kun-Fu Fitness System™ while allowing to to prosper. There are no additional fees. This is a complete training, certification and turn-key business system for a one-time fee. It's that simple.
NESTA and John Spencer Ellis offer three additional turn-key business systems. They are the Adventure Boot Camp, EZ8 Running Program, and the Triathlon Coaching Program.
Is the workout pre-choreographed or is it a freestyle format?
Great question! Some health club group exercise classes are pre-choreographed, meaning that the instructor follows an exact formula (the program creator developed) EACH TIME the class is taught. Some experts (including the developer of this program) feel that this philosophy creates fitness instructor drones without the ability to improvise and use creative thought to make the class exciting and fresh. Kung-Fu Fitness certainly has sequences and specific concepts that are fundamental. However, you have the freedom to choreograph your classes any way you like. You will be taught logical progressions, proper cueing, basics before combinations, etc. However, you, as the qualified instructor, decide on the final format of your classes.
In the consumer workout video of Kung-Fu Fintess, which is included in this complete program, the beats per minute of the music is 112-116. Based on the level of class you are teaching, you can go up to 124 or so. The class can also be taught without music. It is up to the instructor.
Will this program teach me how to make money?
Yes! You will learn specific strategies and plans to: create a 'buzz', get people to enroll, get clients to re-enroll, network with other health, fitness and medical professionals, get free advertising, work with the media, offer special incentives to prospective clients and much more. You will also learn what to charge for private and group classes, how to market yourself online, and how to establish yourself as an expert.
